Tell us about yourself.
Hi, I’m Felicia. I was a fellow in the J Leaders Academy in 2023 – 2024, and I’m part of the 2024 – 2025 JMentors cohort. I currently live in Central New Jersey and work as a Program Associate for Hillel International.
Jewish life is a big part of my world: I’m involved in my local synagogue, Highland Park Conservative Temple, I sing in a Jewish choir called Makhelat HaMercaz, and I stay connected with local Jewish young professional orgs like Mesorah NJ.
What inspired you to apply to J Leaders?
I first heard about J Leaders through my friend Leya at a Moishe House event. She thought I’d be a great fit and encouraged me to apply. Around that time, I was already exploring Jewish leadership opportunities and had just completed the ENGAJ Fellowship through the JCC of Palo Alto. I was drawn to the idea of strengthening my leadership skills in a Jewish setting, making deeper connections, and hopefully finding a sense of community and friendship along the way.
With so many options, why did you choose J Leaders?
J Leaders stood out as the program for Jewish professional leadership in the Bay Area. I heard from friends and alumni who had nothing but good things to say. Plus, I really appreciated the thoughtful approach and values behind the program. The leadership retreats also sounded amazing, and they definitely lived up to the hype!
What was the most impactful part of your J Leaders experience?
Without a doubt, it was the people. The most impactful part of the Academy was the relationships I formed and the community we built together. Being surrounded by other young Jewish leaders gave me a chance to learn more about myself, reflect on my strengths, and think deeply about how I want to lead both professionally and in the Jewish world.
How has the program influenced your professional and Jewish life?
Professionally, J Leaders gave me an affirming confidence boost. Learning alongside such talented people helped me see my own leadership potential.
I’d also say the program inspired me to take the leap into the Jewish nonprofit world, which is something I had been thinking about, but J Leaders gave me the push I needed. It’s also helped me stay rooted and think more intentionally about how my values inform my leadership.
What’s an unexpected benefit or achievement from your J Leaders experience?
An unexpected (but amazing!) benefit was finding out about the JMentors program. I’m now matched with an incredible mentor named Nancy, and she’s been such a source of wisdom and moral support as I navigate my transition into the Jewish nonprofit sector. That relationship has been such a gift.
What advice would you give to Jewish young adults considering J Leaders?
Just go for it. It’s such a valuable opportunity to learn, grow, and connect. You’ll walk away with so much more than leadership skills. You’ll walk away with lasting friendships, new confidence, and a strong sense of community.
The program doesn’t end when it’s over. It really does stay with you.
