Teens.

Are you passionate about guiding Jewish teens, building community, and shaping the
next generation of Jewish leaders? Congregation Sinai in San Jose, CA, is seeking a
dynamic, dedicated, and creative USY Advisor to lead our thriving youth group,
SJCUSY (San Jose Community United Synagogue Youth).
This is more than a part-time role—it’s an opportunity to be a mentor, a builder of
Jewish identity, and a spark for community connection. Our vibrant Conservative
synagogue, with 215 member families and a core of 18 active USYers among our 62
teens (grades 8–12), is excited to welcome someone who can bring energy, empathy,
and leadership to our youth programming.
What You’ll Do
Inspire and Guide Teen Leaders
● Serve as a mentor and coach to the SJCUSY teen board, leading regular
leadership workshops and providing supportive, constructive feedback.
● Help teens develop both Jewish identity and practical skills as young leaders.
● Supervise and participate in local and regional events—yes, that includes
weekend retreats filled with ruach and meaningful connection!
● Collaborate with synagogue staff and the broader Jewish community to grow the
chapter and keep programming exciting and relevant.
Communicate and Collaborate
● Be the bridge between SJCUSY and our synagogue, working closely with Sinai’s
Youth Commission, Executive Director, and Director of Congregational
Learning, as well as the USY Regional Director.
● Coordinate calendars, communications, and joint events with other USY chapters
in the Bay Area.
● Plan and support 1–2 annual events for Gesher/Kadima (grades 6–8) to build a
pipeline of future leaders.
Manage with Heart and Precision
● Track membership and event participation to strengthen engagement.
Manage budgets, submit receipts, and handle event logistics with the support of
the Youth Commission.
● Recruit assistant advisors as needed to help support events and programming.
Who You Are
We’re looking for someone who:
● Identifies as Jewish and has a strong knowledge of Jewish practices and
traditions
● Is at least two years out of high school
● Brings experience in youth leadership—whether from USY, camp, teaching, or
other programming
● Communicates clearly, works well with teens, and has the emotional
intelligence to meet them where they are
Compensation $8,000 to $10,000 per year based on experience.
